I bought this Acer Aspire 1551-5448 (Mesh Black) approximately 10 months ago on Amazon, after returning a smaller, different model Acer netbook at Walmart that had a fan noise issue. I was gambling a little because it would not be as easy to return with Amazon (but Walmart didn't carry this model). I had researched both models online, and decided to go with the bigger screen of the 1551.

Other reviewers have already mentioned the details, but I must say that I would like to respond to some of the pros/cons mentioned:
* the viewing angle issue is no different from other laptops I've seen, and not an issue for me at all (of course, I never set it on my lap either, though the ability to open it wide should make lap viewing easy; if I don't have something to set it on, I often hold it by its spine with my left hand and type with my right hand, note I'm a one finger typist anyway)
* the hinge issue mentioned has been absolutely no problem for me; and I probably put the hinge to test more than most, holding by the spine as I am doing right now; so far the solidity and stiffness of the hinge/spine has been perfect
* the bloatware can easily be removed

Other not mentioned pros:
* pretty durable -- it has fallen out my hand several times after I have fallen asleep holding it while laying on a carpeted floor (though I certainly try to avoid this happening); it has yet to have an issue because of this
* already mentioned, but it plays HD video like a rock star; I have also lately been running Revit Architecture 2012 and AutoCad 2012, both of which have run well, faster than my previous desktop at work - the bigger screen versus the smaller netbooks is invaluable here, and plugging in a mouse helps too, plus I can plug in my desktop monitor though I have yet to do this
* get the mesh black finish; the glossy finish of the smaller Acer I tried was an absolute fingerprint magnet; the mesh black is a tight patterned matte finish that is perfect
* I have had absolutely no noise issues, fan or otherwise

Only con:
* the bottom can get rather warm, especially the left side; twice in the first few months it got so warm sitting directly on a table surface that it shut down; in the last 7 or 8 months I have been sitting it on an empty cereal box or book, letting the left 40% breath freely; this has solved the problem, though I am looking forward to getting a cooling pad for table top use when I can afford it; I usually either hold it in my hand as I mentioned (and am doing now), or I set it on the floor on its right side (with the bottom exposed to air) while I lay on the floor.

It is an excellent little machine, runs much faster than my old desktop at work (which was a CAD station); the portability is awesome; the bigger-than-your-average-netbook screen size is invaluable. I love this little computer. It has been my only computer since I bought it. I have yet to fix the cooling system problem with my gaming desktop that makes it crash, not only because I don't have the money, but because I don't really need my desktop anymore. I plan to plug in my desktop monitor into my netbook soon. I highly recommend the Acer Aspire 1551-5448 (mesh black).

This laptop is simply awesome. In most sites is listed as a "netbook", although Acer sells it as a notebook. Technically, I'd say it's a netbook (it doesn't come with a CD/DVD internal writer), but it runs as a good notebook.
HD/graphics features are OK, not superb, though. Decent, I'd say. However, for every day web browsing, email, etc, it's more than OK.
The greatest feature I found so far: you don't need "recovery media" (i.e. recovery DVD). You simply hit Alt+F10 and it goes back to its original configuration. Simply as that! Actually, I formatted my hard drive, so I could have two partitions (C & D), and when I got that done, I just hit Alt+F10 and re-installed the original config over the "new" C partition. Amazing.

The Acer AS1551-5448 is everything I thought it was going to be. There is a lot of blot ware but that is easily handled. Overall size is perfect for travel. The screen size is better than the 10 inch notebooks. Loads fast and handles everything I've done so far with ease.
